Ok folks, this is a reminder that we are running an event for Greek Week.
For those who have no idea what we are on about, Greek Week is the
replacement for the Societies of UL (SoUL) week that was held for the last
few years. Every society has to run an event or help run another one
otherwise they suffer as a society and will get a budget cut next year.
How successful this event will be affects us all. The computer society has
meant just SkyNet in recent years but at the end of the day, we are meant
to be a society and it is all our responsibility that it grows as one. We
have a very bad image of never appearing in public and we need to turn
this around.

The committee has worked hard to get this running. We have the stables
courtyard booked from 12 until 5 on Tuesday and we have most of the
details of the competition sorted. The idea is that we will have several
games which have nostalgic appeal to people from arcade days. The full
list of games will be compiled by tomorrow evening and will consist of
games such as Pacman, Metal Slug, 1943 and maybe something like street
fighter (other suggestions welcome). These are all old games that any
button basher can play. It'll be 20p to play a game (all proceeds to
charity) and the winner will be decided by the hi-score table for each
game. The main prize will be a playstation console presuming we find one
for a reasonable price.

But as Paul Lee never tires of pointing out, the society doesn't consist
of just the committee, it consists of it's members. We need people to show
up and get their friends to come as well even if just for 30 minutes. Play
a game or two, get involved, support it.

We also need the lend of some equipment as the server room doesn't have
everything. We need the following if people are willing to loan it

o 4 x Extension cords to run power from one of the buildings to the courtyard
o 8 x 4+ plug adapters to plug computer into
o 7 computers with a minimum spec of 400Mhz processor and 32MB RAM. We'll need
them from 9 until about 6ish
o 10 x game controllers like gamepads
o 10 x Joysticks for games that need them
o People willing to test out the package that will run on these computers.
Should be available tomorrow or Thursday at the latest
o Someone with a car to ferry computers in and out for the day. All costs
for this will be covered by the society
o People to show up!!!

If you have any questions on whats happening, post them to skynet.soc.comp
on ltin. If for some reason you can't post, try and find someone in the
lab to help you. If all else fails, mail compsoc at skynet.ie and somone there
will try to help you if possible. Post there even if it's
just a "I'll be there" post because the last thing we need is to set all
this up to have it fall on it's face because you as members of the society
couldn't even be arsed to help it out. If you have suggestions on what you
want to see there, it still isn't too late to post and we'll see what we
can do.
