We have now lost what seems to be a SCSI controller on holly, our
primary server. This server serves all home directories, as well as mail
and authentication.
I am currently in the process of building one of the other servers to
replace holly temporarily, until we can get stuff fixed and running
again. However, there is only a 29G partition for /home available on the
server we're moving over to.
This means that everyone should examine their disk usage, and remove
anything that isn't necessary. Also, anything important that people have
stored on Skynet should be backed up immediately.
When it comes to moving home directories over to the new server, if the
overall size of /home is still greater than the 29G available, I will
only be taking a maximum of a user's quota over to the new server.
Quotas are currently set at 100mb for every normal user and 350mb for
clubs and societies. This means that any user with a directory over
100mb will only have the first 100mb of contents on the new server, and
any club or society using over 350mb will only get the first 350mb of
their contents on the new server. So please, if you don't need to use as
much space as you are using, remove the stuff you don't absolutely need
on Skynet.
