Hi All,
For those returning, welcome back. For our new members, welcome and I
hope you're enjoying what UL has to offer.

First off, membership fees for the new academic year are now due. I
would urge any users who haven't yet paid for their accounts to do so
before the end of week 3. After this time, accounts that have not been
paid for will be archived. We will be removing unpaid-for accounts
completely at the end of week 5, meaning any email sent to the account
will no longer be delivered, and the user will have no access to any of
skynet's non-public services. The dates for this are:
Archival of accounts : Friday Week 3 : Friday 14th October
Removal of accounts : Friday Week 5 : Friday 28th October

Full details of payment options are available at
http://www.skynet.ie/membership.php

For any issues relating to accounts and payment, contact accounts at
skynet.ie. For any technical queries check our user guide first at
www.skynet.ie/guide and if you can't find what you're looking for, email
alladmins at skynet.ie.

The admin team ask anyone with enough interest and a willingness to
learn to join in. Currently, most of the work falls on a few shoulders.
This can make maintainance, upgrades and the addition of new services
quite difficult. The work does require a good deal of knowledge about
GNU/Linux, Solaris and the different services we run, but all this
knowledge can be learned. Anyone who decides they'd like to help out can
also depend on a wealth of knowledge and help where necessary (even if
it's just RTFM!) from the current skynet admins. If you'd like to take
part in the maintainance of the network, send an email to alladmins at
skynet.ie stating your interest. Someone will get back in touch with you
about it. There are advantages to getting involved - since you will have
experience on a real world system, you are of great advantage to an
employer. Many of our former admins have got excellent jobs due, at
least in part, to their experience in Skynet. Companies include IBM,
Symbian, Sun and Treyarch (they just released a new Spiderman game to
rave reviews).

The Computer Society AGM is being held on Tuesday 4th October,
at 6pm in The CSIS building. This should only last around 30mins to 1hr.
We would like as many members as possible to show up for this meeting,
and we would particularly like the new members to get involved in the
running of the society and the administration of the servers. So show
your face and help the society to keep growing. Membership fees can be
paid at this meeting.

Regards,
Cian Davis
Skynet Admin Team
