[CompSoc-News] Yesterday's migration and reminder for forthcoming mail migration

Hi All,
The migration yesterday to our mew machine (calculon) went smoothly -
notice the 1.9TB /home :-)

There was one glitch - aliases were only copied over this morning. This
means that all mail to root at skynet.ie, dbadmin at skynet.ie,
webadmin at skynet.ie and all firstname.lastname at skynet.ie aliases would
have bounced. It should all be fixed now.

We also informed you a while ago (last April) that we would be migrating
to a mail only server. This will hopefully bring a number of benefits
including greater mail storage, ability to have subfolders, no limit on
size of Inbox, better reliability and better network resilience.

This will happen in 4 weeks. It will require downtime but only mail will
be affected.

Your Inbox and all mail in it will be automatically migrated.

All other folders, including sent-mail, drafts etc. WILL NOT be
automatically migrated.
Spamassassin preferences WILL automatically be migrated.
procmail (delivery rules) WILL NOT be automatically migrated

If you want folders or procmail migrated you must e-mail
mailmigration at skynet.ie with the following information:
1. Username
2. What mail client do you use? (Pine, mutt, Thunderbird, Webmail)
3. What folders do you want migrated? (We need exact names)
4. Do you want your procmail rules migrated?

You will get a confirmation e-mail when these have been checked.

Only a few people have asked for folders to be migrated so far (these
people do not need to e-mail again).

Regards,
Cian Davis
