Hi All,
The current webserver is showing signs that it's on its last legs. The
new webserver (caro) arrived and has been built and configured.
It is *highly* recommended that you test your websites by going to
http://www2.skynet.ie/~your_username and check that everything is
working. If not, mail webadmin at skynet.ie
CGI and suexec are working but as pointed out before, packages and PERL
modules have not been installed. If you need anything like this let us
know. It is currently *very* likely that CGIs using PERL are broken. So
you need to check to see what PERL modules are needed and mail
webadmin at skynet.ie Also, compiled CGIs are very likely to break and need
to be recompiled - caro is an AMD64 Opteron.
VirtualHosts (like somesite.skynet.ie) have *not* yet been migrated. And
bear in mind that you access www2.skynet.ie, you may have coded the
virtual hosts in. So check the address bar still reads www2.
We'll test further and look to migrate in about a week, barring no major
problems.
You should be able to SSH to the webserver - just ssh caro or ssh www2.
Any other questions, give us a shout webadmin at skynet.ie
Again, if you don't test it's your own fault if your website breaks when
we migrate it.
suPHP is now available. suPHP lets you execute PHP scripts as you
instead of the webserver. Very handy for 2 main reasons: 1. you don't
want to have your MySQL username and password viewable to everyone on
Skynet. 2. If you are uploading files (e.g. photos), the files will be
owned by you instead of nobody and you don't have to have a world
writeable folder for it to work. Mail webadmin at skynet.ie for details.
