Hi All,
There will be brief downtime of minor services at 08:30 tomorrow
morning including anyterm, IRC, MySQL and Wiki.
On Wednesday, 2nd May at 08:30 we will be migrating from the current
main login machine to a new, dual Opteron with 2GB of RAM. It is
currently running as tx. We would strongly advise you to check that
everything works as it currently does on Skynet. PERL scripts in
particular need to be checked. Minimal PERL libraries were installed
on tx. Any problems, mail root at skynet.ie.
When it takes over, the new machine will be called skynet and have the
same IP as current Skynet. Therefore, it will be the machine you get
when you ssh to skynet.ie, skynet.skynet.ie, skynet.csn.ul.ie or
shell.skynet.ie. The SSH host key will change so you will get a
warning from your SSH client (PuTTY on Windows). This is normal and
expected.
We expect half an hour downtime. The webserver will also be offline
for a brief period.
Regards,
Cian Davis
