Slí an Cheoil presents A Christmas Ceilí

Performing Arts Centre, Foundation Building,  

Friday Dec 11th, 1.15 pm

Music students from Limerick's Crescent College Comprehensive and Laurel Hill Secondary School, along with their teachers Roisin Lavery and Orla Colgan, and some of the Irish World Academy's finest traditional musicians, singers and dancers, come together with Slí an Cheoil: A Christmas Ceilí.  Slí an Cheoil is the culmination of a twelve-week classroom-based project supported by The Teaching Council, and designed to lead post-primary music teachers and students further into the tradition, while at the same time aligning with the existing curriculum priorities and practical realities of classroom teaching.   Slí an Cheoil's aim is to create an environment where the post-primary music classroom can connect with, and engage with the wider social practices of the Irish traditional music community.

An Irish World Academy research student, Thomas Johnston, has collaborated with each music teacher, their music students, and the traditional artists involved over this time, to bring you some of the fruits of this educational experience within the tradition.
