TO ALL MY COLLEAGUES AT UL,
May you have a very restful and happy Christmas. Though far from you, you are always in my thoughts.

Subject: retirement of Martin Chappell
As we draw the first-ever UL Languages Week to a successful close, it is hard to believe that we are also preparing to say a very fond farewell to the longest-serving member of the Department of Languages and Cultural Studies.
Martin Chappell, who has been lecturing in French at NIHE/UL since 1976, will be retiring at the end of September 2009. Martin has made a tremendous contribution to the development of the Department of LCS and to the University as a whole, not least through his work as Head of Department between 2000 and 2006 and his active participation as a UL Governor and a member (and academic rep) of the Union over the years. Martin has many friends across the university community who, we are sure, would like to join us in marking his retirement and wishing him well for the future.
We will be holding a presentation and reception for Martin on 28th October at 4.30pm in the Millstream Common Room. If you would like to make a contribution to the presentation, please contact Jess Beeley in MC1002 (Millstream Courtyard Building - ext. 2321) or Ann Ryan in C1080 (Main Building - ext. 2286)
