The Dept of Politics and Public Administration invites you to its
research seminar series
 Wednesday 7th April MC2005 @2.15

Miles Larmer (University of Sheffield)
Disciplined Democracy and Resource Nationalism in Zambia's Third
Republic: results and prospects
Dr Miles Larmer is Lecturer in International History, University of
Sheffield. He is currently completing a study of the post-colonial
political history of Zambia. This focuses on opposition movements to
Kenneth Kaunda's United National Independence Party and, in doing so,
seeks to deconstruct the established nationalist framework which
dominates the historiography of Zambia and of sub-Saharan African in
general. This is expected to be published in book form in late 2010. He
is co -editing (with Dr Alastair Fraser) a collection entitled 'Boom and
Bust on the Zambian Copperbelt'. This inter-disciplinary study of the
rise and fall of Zambia's mining industry provides vital insights into
the ways in which the integration of similar countries into the global
commodities market shapes and is shaped by African actors. This volume
will appear in early 2010. He is also preparing a study of the impact of
anti-globalisation discourses on civil society and social movements in
Southern Africa. Co-written with Dr Leo Zeilig and Dr Peter Dwyer. This
will be published by Haymarket books in mid-2010.

All welcome.
