This presentation will take the form of a discussion on how to engage students in deep, as opposed to surface learning, no matter what the discipline.  We will consider examples from our practice by reference to some of Ramsden's considerations for improving the practice of university teaching: Defining Goals and Structure; Using Appropriate Teaching Strategies and Assessing Students

Student writing experiences across the Shannon Consortium

This conversation will focus on the varying writing tasks students engage in as part of their study. Participants will use the results from a Regional Writing Centre writing survey to explore the attitudes and needs of students in relation to writing tasks and then explore if and how these needs should be addressed.
