Subject: LIMERICK FESTIVAL OF CHURCH MUSIC ORGAN DAY

*Dear All*

The Limerick Festival of Church Music 2010 is pleased to announce that
the Organist in Residence for this year's festival will be Gerard
Gillen, former Professor and Head of Music at the *National University
of Ireland, Maynooth* and currently Titular Organist in the *Pro
Cathedral, Dublin.*

The Organ Day, consisting of a pre-concert lecture, lunchtime recital
and master classes will take place in St. John's Cathedral, Limerick
on *Saturday 6th March* and the theme will be *'The Organ as a
Liturgical Instrument'*. Mr. Gillen has extensive experience as both a
church organist and a concert organist, nationally and
internationally, so this will be a unique opportunity to avail of his
expertise and eperience, either through listening, participating or
both.

Because of the theme, Mr. Gillen has indicated that any piece of music
which can be used in a liturgical context is suitable for the master
classes, be it a psalm, hymn tune etc or voluntary of any standard.
The proposed timetable is as follows:

11.00 am to 12.00pm - lecture - booking required
1pm to 2.00pm - recital - free & open to the public- please support
2.30pm to 4.30pm - master classes - booking required

/Fee details on the attached application form. /

We are indebted to *City of Limerick VEC* and *Limerick School of
Music *for their on-going sponsorship of the Organ Day.

Regards

*Bernadette Kiely
