Language Awareness Workshop (1)
Doesn't everyone speak English anyway?
Deirdre Ní Loingsigh, Stiúrthóir na Gaeilge
Tuesday, 23 February 13.15-13.50 at Seomra na Gaeilge (LC0-016)
(Following launch of University of Limerick Official Languages Scheme 2009-2012 in Millstream Common Room @ 12.45)
This is the first of a new series of short language awareness workshops for UL staff and faculty. The University of Limerick Official Languages Scheme 2009-2012 aims to enhance the level of services available through Irish and bilingually at UL. Ways of nurturing and normalising bilingualism in the workplace in order to complement current and proposed bilingual service provision will be discussed in these language awareness sessions.
In this first workshop, some common assumptions about the Irish language and some prevalent positive and negative attitudes to Irish and to the Official Languages legislation will be explored and challenged.
The workshop will be facilitated in English. As places are limited, please register beforehand by emailing Ciara.Considine at ul.ie
Further language awareness sessions for students will take place in March 2010. A copy of the UL Official Languages Scheme 2009-2012 is available at www.ul.ie/ola
