The Mairead Dunlevy Commemorative Lecture Series

The University of Limerick has established an annual commemorative lecture series in memory of the late Mairead Dunlevy, former Director of the Hunt Museum. This initiative focuses on her life, career and legacy through lectures in fields of endeavour related to Mairead's specialisms.

The series is sponsored by TOP Oil.

Claudia Kinmonth MA (RCA) PhD

Dr Claudia Kinmonth studied furniture conservation at the London College of Furniture. She then graduated in Design history, with distinction, from London's Royal College of Art. The book that emerged from her MA thesis, 'Irish Country Furniture 1700-1950', was her first for Yale University Press (1993) and won two awards. While working for the Victoria and Albert Museum and Sir John Soane's Museum in London, she organised a travelling exhibition of her photographs of Irish farmhouse interiors. As Senior Research Fellow at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University, she completed her PhD on Irish vernacular furniture and has lectured, published and broadcasted widely.

She was guest curator of Ireland's first exhibition of genre painting, 'Whipping the Herring' at Cork's Crawford Municipal Art Gallery. In 2006 she contributed to 'A Time and a Place' at Dublin's National Gallery and subsequently launched her second book for Yale, 'Irish Rural Interiors in Art'.
