Clíodna Shanahan plays Beethoven with the UL Orchestra 

Saturday 8th May, University Concert Hall, 8.00 pm.



UL Orchestra is delighted to welcome Limerick native Clíodna Shanahan, who is making a name for herself as an outstanding young pianist on the international stage, for a performance of Beethoven’s well-known Piano Concerto no. 3. The programme blasts off with Wagner’s iconic Ride of the Valkyries, and the audience will need to hold on to their seats as the full brass sound of this familiar overture floods the Concert Hall!  In contrast, the lyrical Danzón, by Arturo Márquez, with its romantic theme which interchanges with a frenetic dance, will bring wonderful images of Mexico.
Special guests for the night are the Crescent College Comprehensive Choir, directed by Róisín Lavery. The Crescent has just finished celebrating its 150th  anniversary, and the orchestra will join the choir for a performance of Jimmy Web’s MacArthur Park, made famous by Crescent past pupil Richard Harris.
