"Man to Take Part in Marathon after Learning to Walk Again
A man who learned to walk again after being crushed to within an inch of
his life in a freak accident is planning to take part in a marathon to
raise money for the hospital that saved his life." Irish Examiner, 6

The Mercy University Hospital Foundation

Hi everyone,
Last September my uncle Pat Holland was badly injured in an accident in
West Cork. He suffered massive injuries - his lungs and stomach were
crushed, his liver was sliced in two, his kidneys stopped working, he
suffered severe infection and he spent six weeks of his 12-week stay in
hospital in a coma. Thanks to the medical staff of the Mercy University
Hospital Cork, Pat is now alive, walking again and he is improving
everyday.

On the 7th of June Pat's daughter Geraldine, my brother Niall Healy (UL
graduate from Sports Science), family friend Dan Kenny (Clarina,
Limerick), myself and Pat are taking part in the Cork City Marathon
(relay section) in aid of the Mercy University Hospital Foundation. Pat
will walk the last half Kilometre of our 42K relay run with his five
year old grandson Dylan.

My family's team relay Marathon will symbolise the teamwork demonstrated
by the staff of the Mercy Hospital which saves, and changes, lives
everyday. Funds raised through sponsorship in aid of the Mercy
University Hospital Foundation are used to purchase state of the art
equipment, to enable research, to enhance and develop facilities and to
support the staff of the hospital in their efforts to provide the
highest level of treatment and care to their patients. All donations are
much appreciated.
