Over recent years, policies at national, EU and international levels
have increasingly stressed the critical role that key competences have
to play in enabling people adapt to a rapidly changing world. In a
knowledge society, these competences, which are variously referred to as
Generic, Transferable or Core Skills, are necessary for personal
fulfilment, active citizenship, social cohesion and employability. How
can the acquisition and development of these generic or key competences
be integrated into teaching approaches and methodologies in adult and
further education and training? This afternoon conference which includes
practical workshops will explore this question from a number of
perspectives.
