style='font-style:italic'>The Lexical Approach</span></i> by Michael Lewis in
1993 created a lot of interest in the teaching of collocations and chunks, but
the momentum does not appear to have been sustained. In this session, I
will argue that, while it may no longer be appropriate to speak of a lexical <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>approach</span></i>, a positive legacy of the lexical
approach could be a principled lexical <i><span style='font-style:italic'>dimension,</span></i>
which can be integrated with other methodologies. I will outline the
principles which underpin this lexical dimension and illustrate how these
principles can be applied to language learning materials.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
