Exemplar Network is a Department of Communications Energy and Natural Resources
programme with Intune Networks to rollout this technology in Ireland first and
create the world’s most advanced telecoms infrastructure. Conceptually the
network resembles an optical version of Ethernet CSMA-CA where the laser
technology allows new dynamics in physical layers L0-L2. This in turn unlocks
new capabilities in the IP & applications layers which can lead to new
applications in the interactive cloud, high-definition video on demand (HD
VOD), true quality of service (QoS) and more economical telecommunications. The
Exemplar network will be part of a new national telecoms infrastructure for
research and innovation in Ireland where UL groups can participate in the
Exemplar Program and discover how this innovation will transform the Internet. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

Ward is the Exemplar Programme Manager responsible for the physical roll out of
the Exemplar Network. He has been six years with Intune, having been part of
the original Intune team. Intune has traditionally been a laser systems
developer but in the last three years, it has built on-top of this laser
technology and developed an Optical Burst Switched network architecture (long
considered the holy grail in optical networking). <o:p></o:p></span></p>
