conductor, <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Leon Fleisher</span></b> performs
in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Ireland</st1:country-region></st1:place>
for the first time with the <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Irish Chamber
Orchestra</span></b>. His story is so compelling, his manual renaissance so inspiring
that this performance should not be missed.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p style='margin-left:0cm;text-indent:0cm'><font size=2 color=black face=Arial><span
style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'>Fleisher is the
extraordinary pianist who lost the use of his right hand to a neurological
ailment in 1964 at the height of his career. Undaunted, he took up teaching,
conducting, and performing the left-hand literature so brilliantly that it was
hard to believe he was using only one hand. When he returned to two-handed
playing after years of medical treatments and determined, arduous
rehabilitation, the public greeted him not only as a great artist but a
conquering hero. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p style='margin-left:0cm;text-indent:0cm'><font size=2 face=Arial><span
style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:Arial'>Fleisher conducts, from the podium
and directs from the piano, his </span></font><font size=2 color=black
face=Arial><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'>all-Mozart
programme. Like Fleisher, Mozart was a child prodigy. His Symphony No. 1 was
written when he was just eight years old. Fleisher’s features an arrangement for
two (instead of three) pianos of the "<i><span style='font-style:italic'>Lodron
Concerto</span></i>" K. 242, which he plays with his wife Katherine
Jacobson Fleisher communicating a sense of fun as they perform this lively work
together. </span></font><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:11.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>Mozart’s rather sombre Adagio and Fugue in C minor was played
at Herbert von Karajan’s funeral. The music demonstrates how the baroque and
the rococo co-existed in classical <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Vienna</st1:City></st1:place>.
</span></font><font size=2 color=black face=Arial><span style='font-size:11.0pt;
font-family:Arial;color:black'>This brings us to the last, but crowning
creation of Mozart's symphonic domain, the Symphony in C major (K.551), the <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>Jupiter Symphony</span></i>. This great work by
contrast was written at a not so great time in Mozart’s personal life. He</span></font><font
size=2 color=black face=Arial><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:Arial;
color:black'> was broke and had just lost his new-born daughter. Despite this,
the <em><i><font face=Arial><span style='font-family:Arial'>Jupiter Symphony</span></font></i></em>
is regarded his greatest and most scholarly symphony, a masterpiece, a summing
up of all that happened in symphonic music before it.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
